A few months ago, news came out that Uber would introduce an audio recording safety feature in its application. With this feature, users can record an audio message immediately whenever they feel unsafe. Uber has now begun experimenting with this feature in select cities in Brazil and Mexico.

Starting in December, this feature allows users living in these cities to activate audio recordings for all their trips.

After the trip, consumers can send audio recording of this feature to the customer care center at Uber for travel safety. Once the audio is recorded, passengers and drivers will not be able to hear it. In these cities, where this feature is active, travelers will be informed that the trip may be recorded.

Uber says the feature will soon be introduced in the US.

But with this feature introduced in the United States, the company may face significant difficulties because the laws governing recording are different from those in all US states. For example, in California if multiple travelers travel together, all parties are required to allow recording.

Uber and its rival Lyft have been widely criticized for their travel complaints.

These companies are accused of not properly seeing the complaints of travelers, especially sexual abuse and harassment. Uber has also previously introduced the features of the punch button and constant background check in its application.

The company says it does not harass passengers in sexual or other ways when the driver knows the trip is being recorded.
