Playstation finds Guinness record of best-selling console on 25th birthday

Introduced to the PlayStation Original Japanese console on December 3, 1994. On the PlayStation Console's 25th anniversary, Guinness World Records honored it with the highest selling console world record.

The PlayStation is the most successful console ever. On the day of its launch 25 years ago, it sold 1 million units.

PlayStation Consoles were given a stiff competition by Nintendo 64 and Sega Saturn, but PlayStation 1 sales are higher than the overall sales of both consoles.

A total of 450 million units have been sold for all PlayStation versions. PlayStation 2, PlayStation 4 and PlayStation are the highest selling versions. Sony reported last month that PlayStation 4 outperformed the Wii in overall sales.

Gainer World Record has described PlayStation as the best-selling console. In early November, PlayStation met its target of selling 450 million units.
