Google Suspends GMS Licenses For All New Smart Phones In Turkey |
Google has announced that it will not issue a Google mobile service license for phones in the Turkish market. This is not just for Turkish phone makers but for all Android phone makers. This ban is not due to the recent China-US trade war, it is due to the option to select the default search engine in the phone. App will not be available for sale on existing smartphones or stores.
However, Google seems to be disrupting security updates for all phones in the Turkish market, which would be a different issue.
The problem began when Russian search engine Yandex filed a complaint against Google, saying it was misappropriating its position in the Google market.
Yandix said Google has removed the option to change the default search engine.
Turkish authorities fined $ 17.4 million, justifying Yandix. Google made some changes to it, but Turkish authorities were not satisfied because consumers still could not change the default search engine. Authorities fined 0.05 percent of global daily revenue on Google until the issue was resolved. The ruling gave Google 60 days to resolve the issue.
Google also pressured Turkey's competent authority to change its decision on trade, but Turkish authorities began investigating another case of Google taking advantage of its position.
