China's GPS rivalry is about to be completed. The project's head, Ren Chengchi, said that the basic work of the Beidou navigation satellite system for several years was completed in early December, while the last two planets also. It will reach space before the middle of 2020. Technically this will be the third phase of Baidu, which was first introduced in 2000, but the point of this satellite system is its current form.
Ren said it won't have a major upgrade until 2035.
Chinese users will not have to worry too much about the new satellite system. Currently 70% of Chinese smartphones already support Baidu. 120 companies are the ones that want to use Baidu for their mapping technology.
China's reliance on US GPS will end once Baidu arrives. Even if the US closes the GPS option for China for political or military purposes, the location service in China will not be affected by Baidu.
